A Quick Morning Workout With All Day Benefits

5-Minute Morning Workout

My five-minute morning workout is invigorating and you can do it anywhere. I’ve combined some of the best exercises from Pilates, yoga and resistance training. Do this quick workout routine every day and you will reap the following benefits:

1. It strengthens and stretches the major muscles of the body.

2. It strengthens the core (all the muscles that support and protect your spine, not just the muscles you can see in the mirror but all the important back muscles, too!).

3. My favorite benefit – it stretches and articulates the spine and prepares it for a day of sitting, standing or being active. A supple spine that is well supported by a strong core is the cornerstone of a healthy body. A healthy spine allows you to function at your best in work, play and even improve your quality of sleep!

One more wonderful benefit is that it wakes you up physically and mentally. Practice exaggerating your deep belly breath as explained in the video and you will feel enlivened and energized. The exertion required for these five minutes will pay off huge dividends in energy levels and overall health. It will improve the way you feel, move and act. This simple, consistent commitment sets the standard for a successful day.

What I deeply respect about Total Gym’s workout philosophy is their commitment to using one’s own body weight as resistance. Although “Functional Training” is the biggest buzzword in the fitness industry as of late, Total Gym has been singing its praises for over 40 years! I love my Total Gym but I work with many people who travel frequently. So in this workout there is no equipment needed. I wanted to keep it simple using the floor and your body weight. Think of this routine as saying to yourself, “Good morning body and brain! Lets wake you kids up and properly prepare to be the best me I can be today.” When you have more time, get back to your Total Gym and reap the exponential benefits of functional resistance training and stretching.

My company, www.CuttingEdgeSalesPerformance.com teaches this routine to successful sales executives. They are on the road a lot and they don’t have much time. After I work with them, though, they realize that simple, consistent wellness tools will give them more energy and focus. This makes them more efficient, more effective and increases their performance and income.

Watch the video learn how to do the 5-minute workout. Because I will be explaining the moves, I will not do a lot of repetitions. The beauty of this routine is that you can adjust according to your time constraints. You might need to shorten it to 4 minutes one day by doing fewer repetitions. On a day you have a little more time and happen to be inspired by a double espresso, you could add a few more repetitions. The most important thing is to just commit and DO IT.

Your body and your brain will thank you. And you’re worth it!
