Leg Curl Exercises with Christie Brinkley

Leg curl exercises may not be everyone’s favorite workout but they are essential in building one’s overall leg strength. Christie Brinkley joins us once again on Total Gym Pulse to show us Total Gym Exercise #71 – the “lying leg curl with crunch” on The Total Gym.

There are many benefits to working out the hamstrings. The hamstrings are a group of tendons contracted by three posterior thigh muscles – the semitendinosus, semimembranosus and bicep femoris. They make up the borders of the space located behind the knee. By doing leg curls one can work the hamstrings effectively and easily. This is especially important for anyone who is into body building. Not only is it great for aesthetics but it helps to prevent injury to this tight muscle group. Strengthening your hamstrings by doing leg curls will also improve your mobility and balance.

Before beginning this exercise, make sure the cable pulleys are unhooked. Christie starts by putting her feet at the base of the machine and ensures they are locked in.

From here Christie starts the motion of the exercise by moving back and forth in a backward to forward motion. As she moves she comments on how she can feel her hamstring area being worked. Brinkley points out that the user can raise the level to make the exercise more challenging.

Christie then goes into a variation of the exercise by lying down on her back. She is still moving the same direction of backward to forward on the machine but comments how she really feels the back of her hamstrings being worked whereas previously she felt it more in the front of her hamstrings.
