Best Stretches on Total Gym

Hey Total Gym Team it’s Master Trainer JayDee back with you to talk about the importance of stretching. I am convinced that flexibility is an important key to aging gracefully, and it is never too early to start your stretching routine. I have had the privilege of working with several senior clients in their 70s and 80s because they love the ease, safety and results of training on the Total Gym. We incorporate stretching into every one of their workouts. When you see their posture and the way they carry themselves, they look 10 to 15 years younger than their actual age. So just think of all the money you’ll save on Botox by incorporating stretching into your workout routines!

OK, kidding aside, here are 5 compelling reasons to keep your body supple and flexible:

Less Aches and Pains

If your muscles are tight from working out or inactivity, they tend to pull on your skeletal frame and take your body out of its natural, efficient position. This can lead to common problems like neck and back pain.

Better Posture

You’ll look taller, more confident and younger! If you’ve ever seen someone with hunched over shoulders and a slouching posture you know what I mean.

Better Function

Supple, flexible muscles will make your body move and perform better in anything you do from sport activities to sitting at your desk.

Better Muscle Development

Stretching the muscle you are training on your Total Gym during your rest periods gives you better results so you’ll be getting a greater return on your time invested working out.

Reduces Stress

Stretching will increase your proprioception (a fancy word for body awareness) so you will notice when you’re holding tension in areas such as your neck and shoulders.

Now that you have the WHY, let me give you my favorite body parts to stretch on your Total Gym. I tend to stretch the muscles that get the most abuse from daily living. You may have heard the latest buzz that “Sitting is the New Smoking” and if you haven’t just Google that phrase and you’ll realize why prolonged sitting can be very detrimental to your overall health.

Watch the accompanying video as I’ll unleash these top body stretches that will leave you feeling younger and more vibrant. I have taught 100s of stretch classes to 1000s of people and I am a true believer in the benefits. I will also discuss when and how long you should hold a stretch and the differences between Static and Dynamic stretching.

Here is a list of the muscles I’ll be showing you how to effectively stretch on your Total Gym in the convenience of your home:

  1. Your Lower, Mid and Upper Back Muscles - There is a huge percentage of the population that experience debilitating back pain episodes
  2. Your Hip Flexors - I’ll tell you why it is the most overused muscle in your body
  3. Your Hamstrings - Definitely a muscle that gets abuse from extending sitting
  4. Your Calves - These poor guys get the job of carrying the weight of our bodies all day long
  5. Your Chest - When these pectoral muscles get tight from computing and driving, they can wreak havoc with our posture and cause us to slouch. Not pretty and a huge cause of upper back and neck pain.
Enjoy and stay flexible in body and mind!
