Total Gym Weight-Loss Journey: Mike Campbell, The Fat Guy

Meet Mike Campbell; he calls himself “The Fat Guy.” Mike will be featured in a series of video blogs on Total Gym Pulse where he will talk about his story and how he lost an incredible amount of weight (over 150 lbs.) by improving his diet and working out on the Total Gym. He calls it his journey.

In his first video Mike talks about his life now. He discusses things he could not do when he weighed more than 350 pounds – simple things that a lot of people take for granted such as not being able to bend over to put food in the dog bowl or go on walks with his wife. He could not even do one push-up. Now Mike can feed his dogs with no problems, he enjoys walks with his wife and he has done as many as 450 push-ups during a charity fund raising event – in 30 minutes.

At over 350 pounds, Mike couldn’t even walk up a flight of steps or buy clothes in regular clothing stores. He now runs up the stairs at a local school for exercise whenever he can and wears size-34 jeans.

Mike concludes his video blog with the hope that people who are overweight will be motivated to make the necessary changes to improve their lives. Instead of talking about what he can’t do, he now only talks about what he can do. Mike credits the Total Gym for helping him get in the best shape of his life.

Mike’s Story, In His Own Words

From age 19 to almost 53, I was an eating machine housed in an obese body. Stress and addictive behavior lead to a person who was 360 pounds and approaching his 53rd birthday. During the second week of February 2009 three things happened that triggered me (The Fat Guy) to start thinking about my struggle with weight and obesity.

I lost 150 pounds in 363 days! I worked on better eating, better exercise (my Total Gym was a critical tool), better life habits, and learning how to be a better healthier me. I am off of the seven medications I was taking in 2009, as well as my CPAP machine. I am fitter and healthier at 57 than I have ever been in my life.

I have gone from The Fat Guy to The Fit Guy to The BEAST! I have followed a saying I learned from my father, KISS (“Keep It Simple, Stupid”), made the choice to have a good attitude, drink plenty of water and use the Total Gym regularly. I love it.

Now I share my story on my website and volunteer with a number of obesity-prevention efforts in South Carolina including, Eat Smart Move More SC, Eat Smart Move More Charleston Tri-County, The Lean Team, Lighten Up Charleston; and I am volunteer director of the Youth Marathon Program. Obesity, especially childhood obesity is my passion. I want to show people that if I can change my life in my mid-fifties that they can change it at any time.
