Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What is Total Gym APEX G3 and how does it work?
The APEX G3 is an affordable compact Total Gym using a cable pulley system and rolling glideboard on an incline to turn part of the user’s bodyweight into resistance. Its 8 resistance levels support 70+ exercises, and the 53-pound frame folds up for storing when floor space is limited.
Does Total Gym APEX G3 require assembly?
The APEX G3 comes preassembled. Initial preparation consists of unpacking the machine, removing the accessories from beneath the glideboard, inserting the squat stand, standing up the folded gym and opening the rails (lowering to the floor), locking the vertical column in place with the black knob pin and securing the desired incline with the color height adjustment knob and safety pins.
How do you fold and store Total Gym APEX G3?
Before folding the APEX G3, take off the squat stand and remove any accessories or attachments. Pull out the color height adjustment knob pin and carefully lower the rails to the floor. Then holding the vertical column, pull out the black knob pin to fold column down. Lastly, lift and stand the gym up starting from the center hinge point where the upper rails and lower glideboard rails meet (keeping fingers clear of pinch points) and slowly fold the 53-pound gym frame together completely. Keep the folded machine on a stable surface away from children and traffic paths.
What accessories come with Total Gym APEX G3?
The APEX G3 includes a compact squat stand, dip bars, a rope leg pulley with one basic ankle cuff, a wing attachment, an exercise flip chart and a nutrition guide. The Weight Bar and other specialty attachments are sold separately and must be checked for compatibility.
What exercises can you do on Total Gym APEX G3?
The APEX G3 supports 70+ unique exercises as demonstrated in the provided exercise flip chart; pressing, rowing, pulldown, arm, core, squat, lunge and leg pulley movements, along with cardio, stretching and Pilates-style exercises. Its included dip bars and wing attachment broaden upper body options beyond exercises performed with the standard cable handles.
Where can I buy the Total Gym APEX G3?
The APEX G3 can be purchased from Total Gym Direct and may be offered by authorized retail partners. Compare the exact accessory bundle, warranty and return policy before buying, since third-party and used listings may not match the direct offer.
Is the Total Gym APEX G3 a good home gym?
The APEX G3 is a good fit for beginners, occasional users and smaller spaces where low weight and frequent folding matter. It covers 70+ exercises across 8 resistance settings, although advanced users may outgrow its adjustment range sooner than the FIT or EVOLVE.
What is the Total Gym APEX G3 weight limit?
The APEX G3 supports a maximum user weight of 300 pounds. The limit describes the user, not a universal allowance for added plates; optional resistance equipment must be used according to its own instructions.
What workouts can you do with the Total Gym APEX G3?
A practical G3 program can alternate full-body strength days with core, mobility or cardio-circuit sessions. The 8 incline settings make it possible to scale exercises by movement—for example, using a lower setting for demanding upper-body work and a higher setting for squats or rows.
Is the Total Gym APEX G3 worth it?
The APEX G3 is most compelling when affordability, a 53-pound frame and compact storage are higher priorities than maximum resistance range. Users who expect frequent progression, need more than a 300-pound capacity or want a longer warranty should compare it closely with the FIT.
What is the difference between the Total Gym APEX G1 and G3?
The APEX G3 is positioned above the G1 with a broader exercise package and additional resistance adjustment. Because APEX bundles can vary by seller, compare the current listings for the number of levels, included attachments and warranty rather than assuming accessories are interchangeable.
What is the difference between the Total Gym APEX G3 and G5?
The G3 emphasizes lower cost, lighter weight and straightforward storage, while the G5 is generally configured as the more feature-rich APEX model. Confirm the current G5 listing for exact levels and accessories, then compare those details with the G3’s 8 levels, 70+ exercises, 300-pound user limit and one-year warranty.
How does the Total Gym APEX G3 compare to the XLS?
The APEX G3 is 15 pounds lighter than the XLS and provides 8 resistance settings instead of 6, making it easier to move and more adjustable by incline. The XLS supports 400-pound users versus 300 pounds on the G3, offers 80+ exercises and adds a padded head-and-footrest for inverted comfort.
How many resistance levels does the Total Gym APEX G3 have?
The APEX G3 has 8 resistance levels. Moving the rails upward increases the effective bodyweight load, while a lower rail position reduces resistance for technique practice, rehabilitation-style movement or higher repetitions.
How many exercises can you do on the Total Gym APEX G3?
The APEX G3 supports more than 70 exercises. The total includes cable, squat-stand, dip-bar, wing-attachment and leg-pulley movements, allowing the machine to cover all major muscle groups.
How much space does the Total Gym APEX G3 require?
In use, the APEX G3 measures 16.5 inches wide, 92.5 inches long and 43 inches high. Reserve extra room for getting on and off the glideboard, cable travel and attachment movement; the narrow frame does not eliminate the need for lengthwise clearance.
Can you add weights to the Total Gym APEX G3?
Yes. The APEX G3 is listed as compatible with the optional Total Gym Weight Bar. Added plates should be secured with the correct clips and loaded only as directed for that accessory; the machine’s 300-pound user rating is a separate specification.
What warranty comes with the Total Gym APEX G3?
The APEX G3 includes a one-year warranty. That is shorter than the lifetime frame warranties offered with the FIT, FIT Anniversary Edition, XLS and EVOLVE, so warranty length should be part of the model comparison for long-term ownership.
